Might be getting there.
A guy from speakev offered to let me try his charger and cable. All was fine.
Tried my cable on his car - doesn't work either.
Collecting a genuine mitsubishi cable tomorrow

Well that's progress at least ;) . Hope the Mitsubishi one works....especially at £300

When using the public charging points with my 32A cable I was getting "car not recognised" about half the time I tried to charge. I then discovered that i could push the cable much further into the socket - a couple of inches in total - and then it works all the time.

I have tried it probably 50 times in 4 different charging points without a single successful charge.
The cable from the guy's leaf went in and charging commenced no problem at all.
We tried my cable on his leaf and nothing happened.

Mitsu branded cable purchased.
Car charging.
Aside from being more expensive the mitsu one is only 16A (not that it matters on the PHEV) and not as nicely made.
But it is a lot longer and, above all, it works.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts.
