We have all bought/are buying the Phev as it is greener/more efficient/cheaper to run.

I wondered what gas guzzlers other members had previously owned. I have owned small cars, but have been guilty of owning a few offenders though mainly covering small mileages.

Pre-Phev I've owned LWB Shoguns, but also had a few sports cars over the years.

My worst was a 7.2 litre 1974 Jensen Interceptor convertible. We owned it for around 3 years, and covered about 7000 miles. It averaged around 8-10 mpg around town. We did manage 13 mpg once on a trip to Cornwall!

Good grief MHS. I think you're going to win a dubious accolade with those figures!

We've been green for a while now with Prius and Fsi Polo, but when I met OH he had a Merc SLK 230. When we moved to the country his 70 odd mile round trip commute to Leeds meant he was filling up about every 4 days I think (which is why we swapped it for a Prius - was a bit of an acceleration trade-down but never mind!). Nowhere near as bad as yours though.

Now I need to fill up around every couple of months - loving it!

Out of interest, what size was the Jensen's tank? Just picturing you stopping at every services on way to Cornwall!
Cheers

The worst car for me would have to be a 2002 range rover vogue I had I was doing well if I got 12mpg a week. Took it to Germany and went on the Autobahn then it did 8mpg!! I remember the best I ever got from it was 18mpg on a steady run to Scotland. The Merc I now have E250 can do 45-50mpg and a good 60mpg on a steady run.
But for shear lunacy I briefly had a Carver 35 Montego cruiser 1993 model, it had a 250 gallon tank! twin turbo diesels I think at the time I worked it out that it did 1mpg with the tide with you! Didn't do the 25knots it was capable of very often. I remember having to put in £800+ of fuel on one trip, no wonder it was going cheap. It had to go!!

Last car I had was a range rover Evoque in white, very nice just not comfortable with it, was always waiting for it to break down ! prior to that had a VW Tiguan, which got written off in an accident, got shunted into a tree backwards, it's ok tho he apologised for falling asleep so its all good !!!.... had a BMW 325d M sport.... then before those countless Discoverys. ... about 4, couple Of 90s ....a series 3... This is the first japenese car I've owned and it's brilliant.

I'm very guilty over the years but MHS has beat me on a 7.2 ;)

Range Rover Sport 3.0
Discovery 4 3.0
BM 5 series / 4 different models biggest 3.5
Jag S Type ( I mean ford he!he!)
Jag x300s 3.2
Ford escort RS2000 Covertable cosworth lookalike
Ford Sierra cosworth
Jag 1980s sovereign 4.2 (my main offender in the mid 90s)
BM 3 Series from the late 70s with a 2.2 lump from another car in the early 90s

So for me going green is a blessing in disguise, I'm going to hell I just know it

When living in Australia a 351 Ford Fairmont, circa 8mpg around town, depending on how you drove it.

When living in the US a 4.0 Jeep Cherokee, giving you around 13 US mpg.

When living in the UK a 3.2 Audit TT giving about 25mpg.

They will not let you into hell - it's hot enough already without you introducing climate change!

Hi guys. New to this forum as doing some research prior to maybe placing an order for gx4h.
Juice guzzlers wise, and in no particular order

3.0 v6 Mitsubishi G Wagon
3.0 V6 shogun Sport
SUPRA 3.0 TURBO
2.5 vectra V6

Then the price of petrol rocketed and put paid to running big engines. Now looking at the PHEV as an alternative. Still like 4x4,s but don't want to spend a fortune running one.

Don't worry, St Peter bought my 2004 4.5L Cerbera in 2010. He will wave you straight past the pearly gates!!

Tvr chimaera 5 litre v8 18 mpg but lots of all fun
Mercedes Ml270 18 mpg no fun

I think there's a few of us ex TVR owners on here.

It could be guilt, but I think we like the idea of a car with lots of technology....................................That actually WORKS!!!!!

My brother has a Cerbera within his 3 car fleet and he's considering getting an electric run around... although won't be an Outlander PHEV as he recently got a 4x4 Volvo. I suggested a 2nd hand imiev. He also has my dad's old Honda 3.0 which drinks petrol. I come from a fairly petrol-intensive family!

Another ex-5 litre TVR Chimaera owner here. Despite its foibles, was the most driving fun I've had. Sensible family life is just a phase though, right?

I still have my 2006 Porsche Cayman S which I can't get my self to sell.. although i never get to drive it and it's just sitting in the driveway
on the plus side we also have a iMiev (in Peugeot version so it's an Ion)
so Eco-wise I'm sort of averaging out I guess ;)

Mitsi L200 2.8
£100 ish to fill it & used to get around 300 miles a tank.

Most of my travel is business travel, so makes sense for me to get as many miles as cheaply as possible.

Just deciding when to go for a Phev, before Christmas, or wait until March

If you are definitely going to get one, don't leave it too long - I would not be surprised if we start to see some of the sweeteners disappearing in the not-too-distant future.
