Interesting. All markets will have the option to use the car for power supply now. Too much to hope for a retrofit I suppose.

So technically I can get free electricity from a local charge point, and then run my house off of it. Also would act like a huge uninterruptible power supply unit.

I am sure the charge points will soon catch on and none will be free. I work the other way, and put surplus solar from my house into the PHEV. The PHEV battery although approx 10kWh of usable energy, will only supply about half the needs of an average home. We need to reduce the average consumption before double processing the electricity.

I think V2H was developed for the Japanese market due to the fear of facing electricity shortages following the shutdown of reactors after the Fukashima accident. I don't think it is meant as a permanent solution, just an emergency measure, and I think in that context it is a great idea - especially living in a rural area where power cuts are quite common. You could always run the engine to charge the battery, so with about 3 litres of fuel to charge you could get upto 15 charges on one tank giving 100+ kWh per tank. Enough to keep your fridge freezer going, charge your phone, keep your network on, power up the boiler for hot water etc for quite a few days. All the heavy usage appliances: shower, cooker, tumble dryer, kettle, entertainment systems, vacuum cleaner etc you could live without if you had the basics and you knew it was only temporary.

I actually rigged up something similar when I lived Near Edinburgh cos the power went off for a couple of days at a time quite frequently. I installed a separate circuit from an ip66 outside socket through my loft to 4 led down lighters and 2 internal plug sockets. I ran a cable from one of the batteries on my Landcruiser through an inverter and a cable long enough to reach my outside socket with a standard domestic plug on the end. We could plug in the boiler so we had heating and hot water, had enough lighting not to need a torch and even had enough to use a small portable TV that we used for camping. It wasn't probably as efficient as a generator would have been - but I rigged it up after the first power cut as everyone beat me to the hire shops and all the gennies had been snapped up.

It worked for us at the time, but a proper solution that could just plug in (as we do every night anyway) and flick a switch would really appeal to me, especially as we wouldn't have the noise of the engine, or the fear that someone might steal your car while it is running!

More (clearer) pictures in nice colour.

What I'd like is a new model without the new front end. It really looks like there's some body work missing to me.

Well I saw the new PHEV in the flesh so to say today and the front is not as bad as it looks on photographs, but it still is a rather unfortunate design to my eyes.

MMC will also have a display outlining Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) electricity supply system that will be available for the new Outlander PHEV. Also on display will be Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) which supports both Android Auto™*3 and Apple CarPlay*4 mirroring solutions and has been available in the European-market Pajero SUV since August.

Ohh could this be the improved head unit/software that has been mentioned previously about the GX3+? When I test drove the GX4h the user interface of the nav really disappointed me. What with Waze due to be included in Android Auto at some point and the changes to the base model, it's looking even better.

Anyone seen any other revisions to the other models GX4 etc?

Neighbourhood debut .... can almost see it from my kitchen window.

This link contains the press release at the bottom of article.

It also has some good photos of instruments and the interior in the alternate brown leather.
(not sure if this interior colour is an extra?)
