Tailgate not locked when car in 'Drive'

I didn't realize you were a 'Lifer' Jim. That's the only way anybody has the time to wade through all the 'Warnings', 'Danger', Don't do so & so or your left Test~Tikle might drop off', contained in the 'comic' known as the handbook. The most useless handbook I have EVER had with a car.

I agree, it's bad but not as bad as watching 'Game of Thrones'! Some sadist lent us the discs for the first 4 series and after two of them I've refused to watch any more.

Believe me after that nonsense the manual is light relief.

I never got all the way through initially (and still haven't) but tend to look specific things up and am often prompted by some of the stuff one reads here unfortunately.

I've read the pre facelift manual at least 3 times.

The facelift manual 3 times as well.

Found an extra button on the last read on the tailgate that locks the car.

I have a PDF version of the manual so it is easy to do a "search", but then again it never finds what you want . . . .

RETURNING TO THE PLOT!
I made a point this morning of checking WHEN I could open the tailgate.
ONLY with the power OFF! It will not open in neutral, drive or reverse if the screen is illuminated. Foot on or off brake.
As you will see below 15 reg Gx4h

Must have been an interesting experiment with the car powered up in reverse without the brakes on :lol:

Maybe the hand brake was on instead. :lol:

On My PHEV, the tailgate can only be opened with the button on the dash when in PARK.

Hand brake applied and reverse, or neutral or drive, the button just beeps without activating the tailgate.

I assume that the button out of sight in the centre console is not set to disabling the tailgate function by the dash button?
