    Goodbye everyone

So, after nearly 7 years of driving PHEVs, I am off. Just traded in my MY19 for a used Jaguar i-Pace. Going fully electric at last. Very sad that Mitsubishi is giving up on the UK. I have loved owning my PHEVs and really appreciated the opportunity to get a gentle introduction to the joys of...

    Catalytic converter thefts

Apparently, thefts of catalytic converters from hybrids is on the increase (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49767195). This is because hybrids don't use up the precious metals in the converters as quickly. The PHEV might be at risk as it has a higher ride height and would be easier to get...

    Serious competition?

Could this be the first serious competition for the PHEV with similar capabilities at a similar price? https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/vauxhall/new-vauxhall-grandland-x-pictures-and-details/

    Charging points in UK

Latest stats on charging points by district in UK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47696839 My own area is poorly served with 9 points of which only 5 are accessible to the public and 3 of those are on business premises where they would expect you to be a customer rather than just in need of a...

Should fast chargers be reserved for EVs?

New RAC Foundation report recommends that fast chargers should be reserved for EV's since PHEV's can't benefit from the full capacity of the chargers: https://www.nextgreencar.com/news/8562/rapid-chargers-should-be-reserved-for-pureevs-says-rac-report/

    Comparative review

Comparative review of PHEV. Yet another one that criticises the "CVT gearbox" which the PHEV doesn't actually have. Undermines any credibility of the reviewer IMHO. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/hyundai/kona/105361/hyundai-kona-electric-vs-mitsubishi-outlander-phev-vs-toyota-c-hr

    Carplay default screen

Just getting used to Apple Carplay. I only plug my iPhone in if I am going to need satnav. When I don't bother, the car screen says "Smartphone not connected" all the time. Any idea how to get it to default to something useful when the phone isn't attached?

    MY19 manuals

About to trade in my MY14 4h for an ex-demo MY19 4h. Anyone know where you can get electronic copies of the MY19/MMS manuals?

    Fuel gauge jammed?

Recently went on a 100m+ journey and was surprised to see the fuel gauge on full at the end of the trip. Gauge has stayed on full ever since. Any idea how to reset it or do I have to take it back to the dealer?

    New Mitsu Eclipse Cross

New mid-size SUV to fit between ASX and Outlander. Looks like no plug-in version planned though so will not be on my list for next car. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mitsubishi/eclipse-cross/99865/new-mitsubishi-eclipse-cross-2017-review

    Frozen wing mirror

Very cold last night. When I unlocked the PHEV this morning the driver's wing mirror didn't unfold. There doesn't seem to be any manual override and I didn't want to break it. Had to wait until car had defrosted. Luckily I wasn't in a rush. Could have used the remote defrost in advance but it...

    Squirrels ate my car

Had 2nd service yesterday and was told that something had chewed through the rubber covering of part of the steering assembly of my PHEV so that the joint was no longer lubricated. £30 for the spare and £325 to fit it (!) as it will mean disassembling the whole lot and resetting all the sensors...

    Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's "Recyclemobile"

Did you see Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall in "Hugh's War on Waste" on BBC1 last night? He was driving around in a PHEV. Highly appropriate since the programme was about recycling. Nice to see the PHEV get some air time and plenty of room in the back for wonky parsnips (you'll have to watch it get...

    Choked by charging

Just come back from a road trip to Cornwall and back. Stuck in traffic in a hilly area, I rashly decided to try the "Charge" button for the first time. The car immediately filled with exhaust fumes through the air vents and I could see the fumes billowing out from under the bonnet. A scary...

    Limited build capacity

Had an interesting chat with a salesman at my local Mitsu garage yesterday. He was saying that lead times for PHEVs are going up because there is only one production facility in Japan that can produce them. He seemed quite worried that the US launch next year would make this an even bigger...

    Mechanical problem

My PHEV is in the garage with its first mechanical problem - the oil seal between the rear axle electric motor and the transfer box has broken, leaking oil all over my new block-paved driveway. The service guy says only one other mechanical problem has been reported so far - a broken oil seal on...

    Cleaning petrol off block paving

My PHEV has dripped petrol onto my block paving leaving stains (I overfilled the tank and the drive slopes). Anyone successfully used cleaning agents to remove such stains? Are the ones that dry to a powder easier to use?

Which report on real life MPG

Article in The Guardian this morning (although not online yet) that Which magazine has tested cars for real-life MPG. Average discrepancy with official figure is 13% worse but PHEV wins the prize for biggest difference, 136%, with an implied £459 in "unexpected fuel costs per annum". Which got...
