I only just found out for AWD vehicles, if you replace one tire you should replace all of them. Apparently this has to do with the necessity for even tread wear (among other things).
So my question is: if even tread wear is critical, should I then avoid directional tires? I feel non-directional tires, rotated to all four positions, are likely to wear evenly, while directional tires, rotated along one side only, have a higher chance of uneven wear.
